Butter Beer

Excuse our absence - we've been busy doing research and reshaking some of our favorites but here's one we meant to post way back in September for our son's 9th birthday, which we celebrated in Harry Potter style trying to recreate the flavor of the butter beer we had a Universal Studios. We revisited it recently for Halloween. Yes, it's without alcohol but it's better that way - I tried a couple of adult versions with vanilla vodka but every which way it was too sweet for our tastes so we stuck with beer without the butter.

Anyway, to treat the kids or the kid in your taste buds:

6-8 oz chilled Reeds Flying Cauldron Butterscotch beer
Scoop vanilla ice cream

Serve in tall chilled glass. Magic.

Gum Prop

Sit down. I’m going to say something.

Sometimes I don’t feel like drinking.

Or like tonight. Sometimes I can’t drink.
My stomach is off from meds and my jaw is swollen after periodontal surgery.
So here’s this week’s cocktail – equal measures of pomegranate juice and soda water with two cubes of frozen orange juice and not a drop of alcohol. Though I could add some vodka and pomegranate liqueur for himself.
The straw is for me.

Cyclist's Widow

Would you be very disappointed to hear that the first cocktail of the summer was a non-alcoholic one? Well, it kinda started out that way.

1 tablespoon grated ginger
Juice 3-4 limes
4 cups of water (sparkling is good too!)
Sugar (or stevia) to taste

It’s a very refreshing drink and I made it while himself was on the eastern shore for the MS bike ride as most of my company for the weekend was under 9 years of age. It didn’t go down so well with the underage set, sticking to their boxed beverages so I added gin to it and called it a ‘cyclist’s widow’.

By the way we love us some Hendrick's gin and it's likely this was the wrong vehicle for it. It wasn't a bad drink but the gin didn't sing in it.
